Christmas Lights Competition 2010

The 2010 Community Spirit Christmas Lights competition generated an enthusiastic response among residents of Mt Albert, Sandringham, Pt Chevalier, Avondale and Mt Eden. Apart from the eager contestants who spent many hours ‘dressing’ their homes in spectacular fashion, the number of people viewing the local lights was impressive– with reports of busloads of viewers and heavy traffic in certain areas.

The colourful displays were quite varied – some subtle & some glitzy. They included snow making machines, one display that was completely solar powered and even a garden railway for a Santa train; this was so popular, that visitors who arrived when it was stationary, started chanting for the owner to switch it on!  A group of carol singers added to the wonderful festive spirit, by performing outside one home.

There was friendly rivalry amongst the keen participants, who encouraged visitors, neighbours and friends to vote for their home, as the ‘best dressed’.

The Community Spirit Christmas Lights Competition was made possible with donations and support from the following businesses: The Goodwin Realty Group, TelstraClear, Dulux, open2view.com, Motat, ASB, Big Splendour, Alberton House, John Raine (Royal Albert), Triniti of Silver Café, Sal Rose Restaurant, Neoneon, Kings Café, Paradice Ice Skating, Toy Shop, Fairfax, Hubbards and PMP Maxum.
